Coast Guard Busy in Stormy Conditions
PORTLAND, Maine - The Coast Guard assisted multiple vessels in high winds, valued at more than one million dollars, in the local Portland area.
Coast Guard Station South Portland personnel responded by land as powerful winds made it too dangerous to get rescue vessels underway.
The Coast Guard and local responders assisted around six vessels in 50 mph winds. The vessels were in danger of being swept away from the dock by the strong winds. The responders identified vessels at risk and secured them, preventing the vessels from going adrift or being severely damaged.
The Coast Guard also assisted local responders with a fuel oil spill at Southern Maine Community College. Their efforts prevented the oil from entering the water despite its close proximity.
